blue bra

Monochrome is everywhere nowadays and I am loving it! It used to be that using one color head-to-toe was deemed tacky, reserved for that odd neighbor up the street who only wore purple, lived on free peppermints from the Denny’s downtown, and never seemed to take out her hair rollers, even for errands.

I confess that I have always had a soft spot for monochrome, especially if employed through different shades and textures. It creates a lush softness that I am ALL about. And although I am all for folks wearing what feels good to them (go for it, purple-peppermint-lady!), the benefit of using varied tones and fabrics is that it creates interest and adds bit of sophistication.

A Note on Location

One of our good friends took these photos and she introduced me to a beautiful, tiny, hidden convent in the Berkeley hills. I was born and raised in the Bay Area and I only just discovered this location! Finding hidden gems right where you live gives a gratitude boost, I think. It reminds us that even the most “normal” places can be quite magical.

I was pretty sure someone would object or interrupt our shoot, it being a quiet (but not off-limits) convent. We stayed in the front atrium and kept things quiet and had no problem. I was glad that we could use the space – the soft color and lighting was amazing.

It was somewhat serendipitous that my outfit was in silver and blue, the colors of Mary. I even had on the silver rosary necklace my mother brought me from Rome! We hadn’t planned on shooting there, but it sure was a happy accident. We did take advantage of the adorable little chapel after the shoot, sitting in the quiet. It was so. Lovely.

A part of me did wonder if the Virgin Mary would approve of my lacy underthings popping out from my top and of my shorts. But after all, she does represent the female face of God, and us chics have to support each other, right? Pretty sure she’d be down for that.

About the Clothes

I found this top on sale at Yoox from a brand I had never heard of called Maison Laviniaturra. I am so glad I bought it, as it is beautifully constructed and drapes well with a belt. I did some research on the brand and it is an Italian fashion house with clean, feminine lines. Nothing wrong with that.

Remember my Portuguese Cinderella shoes? You can see them with a very different outfit here

To add texture and a richer hue, I used a strappy lace bra from Adore Me. It’s the “Madisyn” bra, and comes in several different colors. I linked it below!

What do you think of the monochrome thing? It’s been around for a minute and is finally moving from the runway to real-life-wear. Thoughts?

love,

Stig.
