On the contrary, it’s a *very serious* childhood dream, realized
As kids we weren’t allowed to watch a ton of TV, but when we did, it was often Saved by the Bell (at least until Family Matters came along). As impressionable as my chubby-cheeked self was, it comes at no surprise that I thought Kelly, Lisa, and Jessica were the epitome of grown-up style. In high school I would surely wear crop tops and high waisted jeans. Like, every day. Yeah, I thought high-schoolers were grown up, that’s how young I was.
High school came and went, with no sign of crop tops or high waisted jeans, not even from the hippest of my hipster friends. Low-rise, bootcut jeans faded into low-rise skinny jeans. And Uggs. Oh, the Uggs. Mercy. (Please re-read that last paragraph in your best Ken Burns voice, it really spices it up).
And now …. the angels sing, the Heavens open, I feel Mother Mary taking my hand and saying, “my girl, your time …. it has come.” I responded to the Call of the Scrunchie in this post, and now it is high-time to address the Return of the 90’s Crop.

The Sneak-Attack Formula
The crop top + jeans formula is creeping into my day-to-day. I mean, only yesterday I posted about going to a DOG PARK using that formula. How naive I was yesterday, thinking that was original. Kelly, Jessica, and Lisa have been behind the scenes all along, plotting for their sartorial return. This morning, I looked at the pictures for today’s post and thought, “oh Lord, is everything I wear a crop-top and jeans?
But how could I be upset about that? All I’m doing is fulfilling childhood ambitions. So I’ll let it be.
Anyhow, here’s the look in question, one that I threw together to walk in Berkeley with Rodrigo and grab a snack afterwards.

About the Clothes
I was lucky to find the top on sale at ASOS, months back, and I love it. It turned out to be a great bet, because come Fashion Week last spring, Self-Portrait launched their Fall collection with a top very similar to this one. I’m linking that top along with a much less expensive version from ASOS in the Outfit Links below!
A Spanish brand called Cuplé is responsible for the glory that is these over-the-knee boots. I ordered them online and, having never bought from the brand before, was a bit nervous about sizing and quality. Good news – quality is great! I did order a half a size down, and to my surprise they fit perfectly. If you choose to order from them, keep that in mind.

We don’t often get to spend the whole day together, since we’re both swamped with various things – but this day was so fun, and so sweet. Just hanging around Berkeley, taking photos, grabbing a snack at that outdoor Brazilian place on Gilman Street. Simple things are the best.

Any patterns you see in your own wardrobe, or combinations that work well for you?
love
Stig.
