The Metallic Trend, Minus the Spaceship Vibe

how to wear metallics during the day without looking like a space ship. Cute outfit for a date, brunch, lunch, or informal event!

Hello hello! Popping in this evening to share my love of all things metallic. The metallic train has been tooting it’s horn for a year or so now, with no signs of slowing. And I am HAPPY about that. I can finally dress like a gilded Vatican statue in full daylight without any shame.

Ok, my shame faded a long time ago, so I guess now I just don’t have to try so hard to find shiny clothes anymore, because they’re everywhere nowadays.

If you want to avoid looking like an astronaut/ET/space ship, may I suggest going for gold tones? You *do* run the risk of looking like a certain Portuguese soccer player’s favorite cleats, but seeing as one of my childhood nicknames was Portu-fabulous,

About The Dream Necklace

So, I need to talk about this necklace. I searched for a necklace exactly like this for months, to no avail. I could see it in my mind, but could not find the damn thing in real life. I had given up my search and was forced to go to the opera in a lesser version. Hard. Knocks.

Fast forward five months, and I’m leaving Nordstrom when a shiny shiny beauty catches my eye. It’s The Dream Necklace, up on a mannequin. I had to reach rather awkwardly to access it. Tip-toes, butt out, grunts, the whole thing. I get the damn thing off the mannequin, only to find it tagless. No price, no brand, nada.

I bring it up to the counter, and the sales team sees it in my hand and busts up laughing. I thought maybe they had seen my butt acrobatics in trying to rip it off the mannequin, but thankfully, no.

They had discovered the necklace the previous day and the team could not figure out where it came from. O

Question – how the hell does a necklace just appear

All I know is that we had a good laugh, we bonded a bit. and negotiated a great price for the thing. It’s great quality, but I can’t attribute it to anyone because it popped out of nowhere (insert Mushu’s voice from Mulan: like daisies!

Anyone know anything? I’m curious.

I’m counting it as a miracle. AND it matches my metallic soccer player shorts. Double win.

Anyway, to the outfit photos!

Metallic shorts for the daytime - cute outfit idea for a date, lunch, brunch, or informal event!
Top: Armani Exchange, old | Shorts: by the way. | Heels: Steve Madden | Bag: Marc Jacobs | Belt: Anthropologie | Necklace: Your guess is as good as mine

One more thing:

So, another confession: the belt was never meant to be a belt. I hacked it off of a shirt from Anthropologie that I had worn for years, but never really liked – except for the waist tie! It has great color and pattern, so I snipped it off and have been using it ever since.

Come to think of it, this outfit is kind of a weird mix of pieces with dubious origins, no?

Fun date, brunch, lunch, or event outfit with metallic shorts and stiletto mules!

Anyone had any odd retail experiences? Have an idea of where this necklace comes from? Maybe we should have a short story contest. Best backstory wins! Haha.

Let me know in the comments.

love

Stig.
