what to wear for a night out at the san francisco opera

I love the opera. I mean, I’m no expert or anything, but for me there’s nothing that brings together so many different art forms in one single experience. You may have seen my mini gushing episode on Instagram a few weeks back – lots of all caps and exclamation points. Eventually I’ll do a post on why everyone should give opera a try because I really think everyone should see one at least once.

A friend and I went to see Tosca at the San Francisco Opera as a birthday present for ourselves, both of us being November babies. Let me tell you, if you want an intro to classic, tragic (although not ironically so) opera, Tosca is a great one. It’s a Puccini and is super melodic, very intense, and stunningly beautiful. It is actually quite funny at times. You KNOW I love a chance to dress up, and I took full advantage of this one.

Please forgive how grainy the photos are; iPhone photography and nighttime don’t mix too well!

Admittedly, this is actually the front of City Hall, but the shadow of that lamp is just too crazy to not post.

Now we’re at the Opera House 🙂

I went with a Tibi knit midi dress in metallic ruby red, my fave Zara heels, a chain belt I bought at the Rack, and huge sparkly earrings that look like I stole them from the Vatican.
