How was everyone’s Thanksgiving? I hope you were able to spend time with someone important to you. Mine was filled with love and family time, and the older I get (31 now, yayayayay!) the more I appreciate that.
Even though, being a liberal arts major (emphasis on liberal), my head buzzes all Thanksgiving day with words like colonialism, structural racism, and patriarchy, I do love having that time together. I let my internal rant spill into the (more proactive) voting booth or the Standing Rock donation page, eat my turkey, and catch up with loved ones.
On to the Thanksgiving #ootd!
Ready for the outfit of the day? I should say outfits, since my sister Julianne was here for the holiday and we got to take some photos together. What’s more fun than that?
For family events, my “J Lo Goes to Church” aesthetic goes full-throttle. That means I leave the crop top at home but definitely not the heels. All my doodads are pretty much covered, but I still feel like me. I also don’t want anything that’s fussy, that I can’t sit on the floor in, or that stains easily.
Enter the tea-length wrap dress. Oh man. It has all the movement that I love for holiday dressing (see the Big Holiday Style Guide for more) and is perfect for a more casual event.

This skirt with a simple shape, excellent tailoring and saturated color was a slam dunk for Julianne. Her style is understated and elegant, so the skirt was a natural choice. Along with my moto jacket that she wore nonstop during her visit, haha. I should go check my closet and make sure she didn’t take it home with her.
The Dinner
We had Thanksgiving at Papa Mendes’s girlfriend Diane’s house – her son and daughter-in-law, the whole Mendes family, plus my mom and stepdad, Bob! This year I felt so grateful that everyone can get together under one roof with love, appreciation, and genuine enjoyment of each other.

We took a few minutes before dinner to get photos, but once we got inside and started catching up with everyone, we forgot about the cameras and phones. That’s a good thing, since everyone was really present – but it also means that we didn’t get pictures with the rest of the family! Boo!
Well, for the most part. There may be a video of my Aunt Margie trying on my heels in which all parties involved are praying that no one gets hurt while laughing so hard we may have had some bladder leakage.
By ”may,” I mean ”absolutely”:
While I didn’t get photos of all the family, I did, however, get a photo of the wonderful food, the beautiful table setting, and my sister nabbing (of all the things on the table) a basket of pot pourri. Weirdo.

I definitely had to loosen the waist on that wrap dress. Quite a lot. That’s when you know it’s good.
What are your feelings on Thanksgiving? How did you spend your weekend?
love
Stig
