Hello from the Mendes sisters! Today, my sister Julianne is making a guest appearance in the Stig New Years’ post, how about that? When she came to the Bay for Thanksgiving, we got our glam on, grabbed Papa Mendes and the camera, and set about shooting some glittery New Year’s inspo. What a hoot.
I also got a chance to bring those shoulder pads back, as promised, haha! I felt like the most beautiful Ice Capades Dancer to grace the halls of the Hearst Mining Building at UC Berkeley, where we shot for this post. Julianne went with a turquoise number that had her looking like a Mermaid Beauty Queen. And it being Berkeley, we got exactly zero weird looks.

New Years’ is always tough for me to plan – I always feel like I should go out and have a huge night of it, and some years we do! I climb into my dancing heels, get out the false lashes, and go nuts when that Reggaeton song from 2004 comes on. And others, we end up sitting on the sofa, drinking champagne and watching Doctor Quinn, Medicine Woman and making snide comments about cultural appropriation along with very sincere comments about the glory that is Jane Seymour.

Whatever your plans are, big or small, I hope you feel GREAT about them. No shame in sleeping at 9 in a puddle of your own drool. No shame in waking up on your neighbor’s lawn on January 1, either. Just keep it safe and have FUN.

And what’s more fun than sequins? I love them and am often too shy to use them on the daily – so New Years’ is the perfect opportunity to go all out and enjoy all the ridiculousness that is SEQUINS (*jazz hands*). Even if you’re staying in and laughing at the “love” scenes in Doctor Quinn, do it with dazzle.

So we’ve got allllllll the sparkly options for you today, from all around the web. There is nothing on these lists, no matter how ridiculous that I wouldn’t wear (wait till you see that red sequined cocktail dress with a hood)!
If your New Years’ plans are Fancy-Schmancy:
If your plans are Dancey-Dancey:
Or, if your plans involve the couch:
Finally, if you’re Brazilian (or want to dress like one) and traditionally wear all white:
From the whole Mendes crew, we sincerely wish you a wonderful end-of-year celebration!

What are your New Years’ plans?
Love,
Stig & Julianne
