Where the Hell Would I Wear That: Blazer Edition

blazer day to night look, how to wear

Hi all! Apologies for the super tardy Wednesday post. Still getting back into the groove of things with all the travel. A great problem to have, no?

In any case, let’s talk fashion for a minute – or rather, shopping with the goal of finding something shiny, new, and just right. And “just right” is really just a feeling, because you may not know what it is you’re looking for.

That is, until you find something that you love and would be so fun to wear. You pull it off the rack and say, “I love it!” Pause. “But where the hell would I wear it?”

I am here to say, friend, there is almost always a way to make it WORK, unless you’re talking about a ball gown, and even then, there is hope.

That trope that was big in the 90s about accessories making or breaking an outfit is cheezy AF because it’s true. It’s all about what you pair with that item-you-love-but-have-nowhere-to-wear-it-to.

Hence, these photos with me in a sparkly Trina Turk blazer. Where in the world would a normal person wear a sparkly blazer with shoulder pads?

One answer: to dinner. I slapped some skinny jeans and heels on and wore that magical, sparkly, beautifully crafted piece of shoulder-pad goodness to dinner with my mom and stepdad (as seen on Instagram here).

But you could easily make this a day look, which I recreated here. Depending on your work environment, this is a good candidate for a work-to-cocktails outfit. Low, conservative heels and a jewel-toned camisole and a devil-may-care bun make this potentially dressy piece feel more accessible.

So where the hell would you wear a sparkly blazer with shoulder pads? To dinner with high heels, to work or lunch with low heels, to the movies with sneakers if you want to be a bit edgy.

And everyone will be all like, “oh my W O R D, look how cute you are in that glittery blazer,” and you’ll be all like, “oh, this rag?” and they’ll scoff because it’s clearly beautifully made, and you’ll al be smiling because there is something liberating about wearing what you want, when and where you want.

So go for it. Wear that thing you think is awesome but aren’t sure where use it – it’s a confidence booster, I promise. Let me know how it goes!

love

PS. Guys, there are MATCHING PANTS AND BUSTIER on the Trina Turk website if you want to go ALL OUT! I love the whole matchy matchy deal. Just FYI. AND they’re all on sale. So double FYI.
