OOTD: Belts and Nothing Serious

long denim jacket outfit with over the knee boots and coach bag

Happy Monday! Despite that typical grogginess, I actually like having a fresh start to the week. I know, that’s a very unpopular opinion, but I’d rather have a positive feeling about Monday than a negative one, so there it is.

Anyhoo, today’s post is a run-of-the-mill outfit of the day post. I wore this number on Thursday to meet up with a friend and honestly, there’s not much to say about it except that it is FUN.

I corralled Papa Mendes into taking some pics of me at the Ruth Bancroft Garden near where he lives. If you haven’t been there, it’s pretty cool. Lots of cacti. I mean, what could go wrong in a miniskirt? Haha.

Experimenting with Length

I bought this denim jacket in Brazil and wear it frequently. I like it because it’s a bit different than the other denim jackets I have, as it’s a longer length.

Experimenting with layers and different lengths, like in this outfit, can lead to some fun results. It mixes things up a bit – and even if you’re not in a place where you want to, or can, wear a miniskirt and thigh high boots on a Thursday afternoon, you can still try out different lengths on traditional pieces and see what you like. A longer sweater or jacket, for example, or a higher waisted pair of slacks, could be a way to play up your wardrobe. Just a thought.

Here, we have some long lines made by the jacket and my hair, which I braided in two Dutch braids. My hair looks CRAZY long, but if you take into account that I’m 5’1″ you quickly realize that it is nothing but an optical illusion. And, perhaps, the ONE benefit to being short, other than my potential to be a pro jockey.

Anyways, we have the short skirt in a fun but relatively demure color, tall boots, and you’re really only seeing a few inches of skin at the thigh. Still, there’s something slightly scandalous about that. The psychology behind what scandalizes and what doesn’t is weird. Maybe that’ll be another post one day, who knows.

In my mind, the result made me feel snazzy, unexpected, and still very me. A win in my book.

The Big Belt Find

Awhile back, I realized I’d really like to amp up my belt collection. I thought I’d invest a bit of money in some fun waist belts, so I went to Saks. Quickly my mistake was made evident when I realized the only belt offerings they had in store were upwards of $500. Whoopsie daisy.

Instead, I ended up trying my luck online with the consignment site The Real Real. I’ve never really bought consignment before, and always had the impression that everything smells just a bit different. But they were having a sale, and I nabbed three belts at a wonderful price.

The belts had been described as being anywhere from “good” condition, with a few scuffs, to “excellent,” meaning they were new with tags. To be honest, all three of the belts I bought were in excellent, like-new shape. I couldn’t be more impressed. As an FYI, they’re not paying me or anything. This is just real talk.

This belt was one of those three, and it’s so fun. Nice and thick, with neutral colors but an abstract pattern that give it some oomph. I love things that are snug at my waist. For some reason, I feel suited up for battle that way. Dare I venture to say that I feel warrior-princessy?

Anyways, despite the fact that my miniskirt was one of those pervy pieces that wants to ride up every now and then, it was a great outfit for a lovely day. And at least it gave us this gem:

So whatever you have going on today, I hope you remember that life isn’t always serious. Yank that skirt down (or up – no judgement), sling those pigtails over your shoulders, and have a great time.

love,

Stig
