Hey hey! When my sister was here visiting, I showed her my plan for this outfit and she was, as you might guess, horrified. A 90s’ sportswear vibe, but in heels with a breakaway skirt? She was not having it.
Yup, I found this Fila track skirt and thought, “oh Lord, what will they think of next?” and immediately tried it on. It can be separated into two discreet halves by virtue of the snaps all the way down each side, including at the waistband. And it was just too ridiculous to pass up. And by ridiculous, I mean so. Much. Fun.

Julianne did not agree. I unfortunately do not have a video of her reaction – although if you’ve seen her on IGTV, I’m sure you can imagine. Disgust. Incredulity. Morbid fascination. Or maybe not morbid fascination, more like that piqued disgust at watching a neighbor let their dog poop on the sidewalk and then not cleaning it up. She didn’t seem to want to look at it, but also … why all the buttons? Why a skirt and not normal pants? Is this Magic Mike, Maxi Style? What happens if it gets caught in a doorway? So many questions, and not a lot of answers.

I’m not going to pretend that I converted her. My mission is not to create fashion robots or to convince anyone of anything – although I do suggest that everyone take a moment to think of how wonderful it would be to get home and RIP YOUR SKIRT OFF and hear allllll those side snaps pop off. Or when you want a little, ahem, breeze? You’re just a pop pop pop away from a sultry side slit and ventilation of all your “parts.”

The 90s’ Sportswear Renaissance
90’s sportswear is having a renaissance, and I am so on board. It’s fun, most of the time it’s practical, and has a great relaxed nostalgia about it that I just love. We’re seeing Champion, Fila, Adidas, Stussy, and others pop up all over the place. And why not?

And to give FULL credit to my sister, she did do my awesome eye makeup. I felt like Sporty Spice and Cleopatra’s daughter (you figure out the genetics on that one, please and thank you).
In any case, much like a breeze flowing through the gaps in breakaway track pants, I hope this post was a breath of fresh air for your Wednesday.
Much, much love,
Stig.
PS. I just googled “breakaway pants gif” and I was not disappointed. It gave us this hilarious tidbit, and now I’m sitting here on my laptop, cackling to myself and Sici, and she is SO DONE with my laughter that she has groaned at high volume thrice in the past 60 second. Anyways, BEHOLD:
I can’t stop watching it. Crying with laughter. I’m not even ashamed.
