Are you a gingham person? I hadn’t given it much thought, to be honest. In the back of my mind, I associated it with Dorothy, Lady and the Tramp, and summertime picnics. It didn’t feel “fashiony”.

Then I saw this dress/jacket/kimono/??? from the brand Acler. On the hanger, it looked like a craft project gone awry. Bulky, puffy, with squiggly piping at the hems.

I immediately thought, “Oh, my. Someone had too much fun with a glue stick.”
And then I remembered a pledge that I made to myself: the more a garment on the hanger made me look sideways, the more reason to try it on.
So I did.

And it’s one of my favorite outfits to date. I was totally wrong, and thank God for that!
The proportions are wonderful, since the puffy sleeves can be balanced by the tie at the waist. It flares out, but not too much, and falls above my knee. Much lower, and it’d look too bulky. Much higher, and I’d look like a cabbage patch doll.

Dress: Acler | Bag: 3.1 Phillip Lim (in black)| Shoes: Zara
An item like this, with so much personality, needs balance. I made sure to elongate the neckline as much as possible by wearing a very deep-V lace bodysuit underneath. The lace also cuts the camp factor from the gingham down a notch, as do the strappy, mod heels.

I love this look much more than I expected. It just goes to show, you never know until you try.
Have a wonderful weekend!
love
Stig
