How was your Fourth of July? We spent ours here in the Bay, taking it easy with friends and family. A longtime family friend has a beautiful property in Walnut Creek, and every year they host a barbeque. It’s a wonderful excuse to get together and catch up!
Fourth of July calls for laid-back, comfy style and bright colors. I put this outfit together and immediately felt like Bruno Mars.

Spitting image, no? Same height, same build, same shoes (no comment on my singing voice, haha).

This outfit was an exercise in oversized layers – a big, bold button down underneath a big, bold bomber jacket. So naturally I wore tiny shorts to balance things out 🙂

This outfit would SLAY with heels, btw. I wore sneakers because it was a very low-key event in an outdoor setting, and I knew I’d want to run around the pastures like the full-grown woman that I am. But if you bronzed up your gams and slid into some strappy heels, let me tell you, the world would be your oyster.

We had a lovely evening, with lots of desserts – I made a Pavlova for the first time, and it was a super-easy crowd pleaser! One of the hosts also makes KILLER pies every year, so I always go light on appetizers and dinner so I can enjoy as much dessert as possible! Never have I felt so grateful for my pancreas.

Papa Mendes and I had loads of fun running around the pastures and taking photos. A great way to spend the Fourth!

Apologies for the stilted writing today. It’s been a high-pain afternoon (I have chronic pain, yay), plus my neighbor is blasting a very surreal blend of Mariachi with, I KID YOU NOT, voice clips of Gollum mixed over it. Two things I never pictured together. And I thought I’d seen everything. Anyhoo, my brain is a bit unhinged, so if you made it this far, major props.

Have a LOVELY holiday weekend!
love,
Stig
