Ready for a good old fashioned wedding guest outfit of the day? I briefly posted this on Instagram following the wedding, but I loved the look so much that I wanted to devote a post to it.

Rodrigo and I got to celebrate one of my best friends from high school, Emily, marrying her college sweetheart, Ken. And man, what a fun event! It was a great excuse to touch base with all our high school buds who we normally only get to see around the holidays. Pair that with radiant lovebirds, an awesome band, great food, spectacular venue at the Berkeley City Club, and it made for a wonderful evening.

I honestly wish I could post every one of my friend’s looks from that night. These people are dazzling in dress and in personality. Unfortunately, they also have a humble streak that often precludes them from standing in front of the camera. I’m working on them, slowly – who knows, maybe we’ll have a guest OOTD one day?

But as of now, we only have me. Womp, womp.

Cocktail Attire
The dress code was cocktail attire, which at least in California, gives a pretty wide berth for interpretation. My only criteria were that whatever I wore fit perfectly and that I felt good in it. For me, feeling good in my outfit is a way of imparting respect for the event. And in this case, one of the people I love the most in the world was getting married, and who doesn’t want to celebrate the hell out of that?! Thankfully, I found this lace number and it fit the bill!

I let the dress do the heavy lifting in this outfit, since the color, texture, and fit are quite bold. The accessories I limited to a dull roar, pulling the blue undertones in the dress into the navy clutch and sticking to neutral crystal pendant earrings.

The sandals – my “naked heels,” since they are quite scanty – kept the production more summery. You could easily wear this dress with black heels for a winter wedding, just FYI. I wanted it to look breezier, given the season, so I wore the stiletto sandals. It doesn’t get breezier than a naked sandal, after all.

Have you been to any fun weddings this summer?
love,
Stig
