It’s crazy to me how only a few years ago (“a few” meaning like, 15) I would have never worn a jumpsuit. They seemed tacky to me, or maybe just corny. Like something out of an ABBA video or a Burt Reynolds calendar.

But as we know, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and this beholder is definitely shaped by the times. Our perspectives on what looks good are so shaped by the trends we see, which is to me a never-ending source of novelty and curiosity. So many things I’ve sworn I’d never wear in the past have shown up here on the blog, and with raging enthusiasm at that.

So just as jumpsuits have become “in” again, on runways and in magazines and generally accepted as – well, acceptable – I find myself in the ladies’ restroom, late to a meeting, frantically disrobing and re-robing because there is nothing less practical than a jumpsuit-and-quick-pee combo.

It seems I’m fully on the jumpsuit bandwagon for the first time in my life. And it feels so good.

There’s something so simple and streamlined about a well-fitting black jumpsuit, not to mention the versatility. I wore this to a casual business meeting at a cafe, but if you work in an office, you could throw on a blazer. Pop that blazer off for happy hour and you have yourself a sassy-and-classy cocktail look. Or even a wedding look.

The Extras
For this outfit, I stayed with relatively staid accessories (see what I did there?) because:
1) it was during the day
2) I wanted to appear at least somewhat professional, especially given that the jumpsuit is strapless. The meeting was at a super chill cafe (Reem’s at the Fruitvale BART station, in case you’re interested), so I felt comfortable showing my shoulders. But I definitely didn’t want to sex it up with racy accessories. To be honest, I’m not sure what a “racy accessory” would be, but I’m guessing that it wouldn’t be what I ended up wearing.

I must say about my sixteen year-old self’s jumpsuit judgements (dare I make a pun about jumpsuiting to conclusions?) that, hey kiddo, times change. And in 2019 it feels damn good to wear that Studio 54-worthy jumpsuit.
love
Stig.
