Palm print is absolutely everywhere nowadays, including at our latest family barbecue. There is something slightly campy about a palm print, isn’t there? Maybe that’s why it’s such a fun choice for summer, a time when we indulge in a lighthearted sentimentality that takes us back to summer camps or vacations of yore.

We had some family up from Brazil, which was such a hoot! Papa Mendes invited everyone (seven of us) over to his house for a Saturday night barbecue, where cross-cultural bonding over electronics, computers, and Brazilian grilling techniques made for an absolutely enchanting evening.

That day was a scorcher, and when I prepped my outfit, I knew the evening would be balmy and we’d probably lounge in the backyard. This palm print maxi dress just sang to me – fun, light, and quintessentially summer.

I paired it with a Topshop bodysuit that I’ve had for ages, a bright banana yellow that shines in summer evening air. Had this been a date night, or a night out with friends, I honestly could have skipped the bodysuit and just taped judiciously for sultrier vibe.

One of my favorite podcasts, Pop Fashion, mentioned a Vox article about the resurgence of palm fronds in American fashion. The article is super interesting, and you can access it here. It goes into wealth dynamics, high fashion, and even Target throw pillows. Highly recommend.
Are you on the palm print train, or are you sticking this one out?
love,
