Last Friday, I was invited to an event to celebrate the release of Coach’s Fall collection at their store in downtown San Francisco – and let me tell you, it was a blast. So much so that when I went to write this post, it became so long that I had to divide it into two! So today is part one – the lingerie-inspired look of the night – and Friday will center more on the event itself. Sound good?

Most people know the brand for their bags, but I do suggest checking out their clothing as well – it’s the Coach 1941 line designed by Stuart Vevers. My impression is that in the past few years, they’ve been pushing to gain more recognition the apparel front, and with good reason! Their clothes have a retro/romantic/NYC vibe that is super wearable, either to the office or out and about.

With that in mind, for this event I wanted to wear AMCAP (as much Coach as possible) because I’m learning to embrace the . . . intense . . . side of my personality. And I loved the result – a Coach lingerie-inspired slip dress in super moody, saturated colors, a fun Coach handbag, a big belt, strappy heels, and so much dry shampoo in my hair that even the 85-degree heat (at 7 pm in San Francisco, hello climate change) couldn’t beat it. Ok, so I only wore two Coach items, but hey, I’m not made of money.

Dress: Coach |Belt: Stella McCartney (similar) | Shoes: Zara (similar)| Bag: Coach

A note about Coach clothing fit: in my experience, their sizing runs slightly large. I embraced it here by lowering the zipper, intentionally exposing a big ol’ lace bra underneath, punching extra holes in my belt to get it snug, and making sure my shoulders were down and back so the dress wouldn’t slide off my body. I was going for a cool fashion lady look and not a Crisco’d bar of soap in saran wrap look. Sometimes you really have to walk a fine line.

If you like the vampy vibe of this look, you can recreate it with a jewel-toned slip dress in a rich fabric, like a silk or satin, and add your belt and heels. It’s really a no-brainer – super easy to put together, with high visual impact.

What do you think? Are you into the semi-deshabille look? It made me feel positively slinky.

love,

Stig
