Happy New Year! Back after some time off with family and friends and man, it is tough getting into those old routines. Our house is in a state of flux, with family flying in and out, Rodrigo prepping for a big Brazil trip, animals going to the vet for checkups and vaccines, and weeks of undone laundry. Quite the contrast to the glam and carefree holiday spirit, right?
January can feel like a bit of a vacuum after the hubbub of November and December. I can’t speak for people who live in super wintery climates, but for me here in California it can often feel like the magic of cold weather dressing has been spent on OTT holiday outfits. I fall into the doldrums of the nondescript, those saltine cracker outfits of stained jeans and smudged sneakers. I try to remind myself that that which I loved in December still applies to the New Year, and there is still joy to be found in dressing! Not only that – you can get to work repurposing looks you used last month, mixing and matching to break up any doldrums you encounter.
So with that in mind, today we’ll be doing a holiday outfit digest and talk about what elements of December style (especially that festive casual) we can hang on to for the next few months of winter.

Rich Fabrics
It’s going to stay chilly for awhile – and for me, the only upside is being able to employ sumptuous fabrics like velvet and taffeta.

Embroidery
This one is a total 90’s throwback (which I remember was in itself a 60’s throwback, as the fashion cycle goes) and I am all in!

Asymmetrical Necklines
Such an easy and elegant way to dress up jeans or spice up a work outfit.

I hope you had a GREAT New Year! Do you feel like repurposing looks to inject some fun into your January wardrobe?
love,
Stig
