Balmain, Latex, and the Kardashians: If You Need a Laugh

I’m not one for celebrity gossip, but hear me out: sometimes joy comes from unexpected places, yes? Such as the pop culture/high fashion/ eco-friendly-fetishwear-turned-trend trifecta of Balmain, latex, and the Kardashians, a prime example of when the whole is greater than the some of its parts.

Let me back up a smidge. For New Years’ Eve, I decided to pare down my outfit to the simplest of nude-toned, skintight, nothing-to-the-imagination, latex (ish) outfits that require a lengthy visit to the confessional before you can next take communion. We lovingly called it “the Hotdog Dress,” because, well …

As you can imagine, it took myself plus two friends to get me into this thing – and from there, the seams of this dress truly were at the mercy of God (and my Spanx).

Then came that glorious Balmain show in Paris last month, which, among a bonanza of exemplary looks, featured head-to-toe latex ensembles.

Not surprisingly, Kim and Kourtney Kardashian ran themselves through the Balmain lamination machine not but a few days later, to glorious, vacuum-sealed effect:

Looking good, ladies.

Now, all of that is just a precursor to a RESPLENDENT video that graced my Instagram feed a few days ago. It really speaks for itself; and I do recommend turning up that volume dial for maximum effect.

I’m not a huge Kardashian fan, although I do respect their ability to create an immensely profitable business that we all simultaneously recognize yet cannot identify exactly what it is they do. If that’s not talent, I don’t know what is. Still, I have never felt a larger heart connection to Kim than in this moment (with the exception of hearing of her notable work in prison reform, of course).

If, like me, you could not get enough of this because between getting near-constant updates from The New York Times and listening to political podcasts, you just need confirmation that someone, ANYONE, on Earth has also required a team of aides to get your butt into a latex garment you have no business wearing, well, you are in LUCK (and my SEO program will surely ding me for that run-sentence, but we’re living in the wild wild West now, so it can deal). There exists a longer version, and I’ve put it here, just for you.

I can’t count how many times I’ve watched these – and I have no plan to stop anytime soon. I hope they made you laugh, too!

love,

Stig
