Chrissy Rutherford is a contributing editor over at Harper’s Bazaar, and the other day she posted a video both to her personal Instagram and to the Bazaar page in response to the rage and pain at racial injustice across the country. The current climate has demanded more and more people to acknowledge what has been happening all along: systemic racism exists, and not only does it suppress the quality of life for BIPOC, but it extinguishes it.
I contacted Chrissy and she gave me the go-ahead to post her video here. It’s a video that she never should have had to make, so please listen and don’t take her words for granted.
Friends, especially white friends, let’s do the work. Let’s get uncomfortable.
“Normal” posting may be on hold while I prioritize listening to, reflecting on, and acting upon BIPOC voices. I’m not sure exactly how this will look on the blog. On IG, it’s taken the form of the #amplifymelanatedvoices challenge, which asks people to stop posting on their normal feed from Jun 1-7, and instead repost content from BIPOC in their IG Stories. Here, that may take the form of sharing resources, or highlighting Black-owned businesses or fashion writers. Still working it out, and suggestions are welcomed.
Please, check in on each other, especially BIPOC friends and loved ones.
love,
Stig.
