La Dolce Vita, California Style: Silk Tie-Dye

Being a San Francisco native, I’ve loved following the growth of the tie-dye trend over the past two or so years. It’s irreverent, fun, and brings with it the wide-eyed optimism, progressive hope, and patriarchy-smashing furor of the 60s. I think that’s why it’s blossomed in 2020 – it’s just that which we most need, isn’t it?

As I *may* have mentioned before (in five different posts, haha), Saturdays are now my Big Glam Days when I dress myself up, make Rodrigo take photos, fix myself a cocktail, and watch the SF Opera’s streaming offering for the weekend. I know, it’s decadent – and frankly, I couldn’t do it without a Rent the Runway membership and (clearly) plenty of free time.

The Silk Tie-Dye Dress of Dreams

So when this silk tie-dye gown came across my radar, I couldn’t resist! My California heart just bounced into the stratosphere. And when I put it on, I felt these bizarre siren-vapors seeping into my pores, the type I’d imagine surround Anita Ekberg and Sophia Loren. A blissful marriage of California-girl and Italian screen goddesses, if I may say so myself.

As with ANY outfit, fit is queen and this dress fit like a dream. Part of that was just good tailoring; the other part, great shapewear. I use this one from Amazon – it’s cheap, it’s definitely an iffy off-brand, but it works.

The Makeup

I don’t consider myself a beauty blogger by any stretch of the word, but folks, I was SO proud of how my makeup turned out. I wanted a bronzed-goddess, California vibe, flushed, freckled, and golden.

Now – in real life, you could absolutely see my pores. Just a reality check, ok? I’m actively trying to find a primer to eliminate my pores (as much as that’s possible), and have some coming in the mail to try. Fingers crossed.

I’m using the Juvia’s Place I Am Magic foundation, which is very (!!) full coverage – so I went over it with a fawn-colored pencil to fill in my freckles. I admit that I saw Giselle Bundchen do this years ago on a Brazilian talk show, thought it was adorable, and have wanted to try it ever since.
