Ahh, the wrap skirt – a much-loved wardrobe fixture of mine. Flattering without being risque, elegant without being boring, it drapes and shapes and nips and flows in the most delicious measures. A standing ovation if said skirt is in a luxe fabric – then I really lose my sh*t. Like Vivian hooting at the polo match in Pretty Woman kind of enthusiasm.

Or like, a more fitting comparison for the occasion, Vivian nearly peeing her pants at La Traviata (I should say that instead of almost wetting herself, her excitement was such that she liked it better than Pirates of Penzance). After all, this was my opera outfit of the week. For as long as we’re in quarantine, and as long as the San Francisco Opera is streaming every weekend, you’ll find me glitzed and tanned on the weekend to settle into blasting my eardrums with some sopranos, drinking wine, and eating popcorn. It’s become what the kids call a thing.
Styling
So about styling: this wrap skirt in particular is quite busy with its pseudo animal print and neon green, so I had to tread lightly. I loved the idea of pairing it with something neutral and structured, and a corset came to mind. A satin one would have been ideal, but alas the only satin corset I have is a rather robust shade of coral. It would have been a Statement, a course in color crashing that I was in no mood to give, so I landed on my other corset: this black velvet number.

Velvet for the summer is a bit of a stretch, at least for me. During the day, I’d give it a hard pass (I mean, never say never), but for nighttime I do feel we can find some leeway. Velvet by night has a romantic appeal, doesn’t it?

Skirt down!

Skirt up!
As for the wrap skirt, this one is actually quite long – almost to my ankles – so I took advantage of its inherent drapey qualities and bustled the hem up into the waistband. A little tuck changes a lot, right?

Minimalist sandals, gold jewelry, and an orange lip drove this thing home.

Approved?

Just a note: You probably already know this, but: these photos have been edited to be sure they’re the best they can be! This means enhancing lighting, getting rid of facial shadows, highlighting details and textures – you know the drill. A reminder never hurts! – Stig
