Awhile back, I set myself on a quest to find the best loungewear brands. I wanted to find collections that went beyond basic leggings and sweats – although there’s a time and place for everything – and had great, expressive design.
The search was harder than I would have thought. There wasn’t one single band that checked all my boxes – but how could there be?
What I’ve come to realize is that the definition of “loungewear” is transitory. It changes depending on what we need it to be, or what our mood is. Sometimes we want it to feel trendy, or indulgent, or something we could wear to exercise or go to the store in.
So I’ve rounded up the best options – many of which I’ve tried and loved, some recommended to me by friends, and all totally lust-worthy.
So here we go:
The Best Loungewear Brands, In No Particular Order:
House of CB
It’s a trendy/comfy kind of mood, and one of my favorite brands, probably ever.
My friend Casey suggested the portmanteau “tromfy” for trendy/comfy and I like it so much, I may get it as a tramp stamp.

AdoreMe
Likely the most versatile and affordable brand on the list – everything from workout sets to lingerie to comfy lounge sets. I’ve shopped from them for years, and they are very reasonably priced and have excellent quality. An obvious contender among the best loungewear brands!

Re Ona
Effortless, sleek, timeless, Black woman-owned, ethical, and well-priced – Re Ona is a no-brainer.

Mauve Joggers available here
Aerie
When you want affordable, no-frills lounge, Aerie is your stop! They also have great undergarments, FYI.

Skims
I truly believe that Skims is a labor of love for Kim Kardashian. I use Skims shapewear and the quality is impeccable – and I can’t wait to try out her loungewear. Tromfy AF.

Local European
It’s loungewear in most of the country, but in LA this what you’d wear with FULL makeup, body glow, and white sneaks to the coffee shop. You know what that means – this is my SPEED! Exactly the tromfy I’ve been looking for. It seems that other folks have caught on – many items are out of stock, but I’ll be haunting their site for restocks!!
You should also know that Local European is Black woman-owned and sustainable. Need more reasons to shop?

Girlfriend Collective
Sustainable, woman-centered (like, actually) athleisure? Yes, yes, and yes. Def one of the best loungewear brands out there!

Pyer Moss
High-end, trendsetting streetwear, including some GREAT lounge pieces. Pyer Moss is a Black-owned brand that is starting to explode (in a good way), and with good reason. Gowns, streetwear, loungewear – they have it A L L .

They also have a shirt that says on the back,
“If you’re just hearing about Pyer Moss, we forgive you” and it’s too precious for words!

Zella
A favorite at Nordstrom, I’ve been using their activewear for years! You can also find great deals at Nordstrom Rack. I mostly use their clothes for workouts, but if you like to lounge in ribbed spandex, this brand is for you.

Lunya
Washable. Silk. Female owned. That’s all you need to know.

Fleur du Mal
The lush Scorpio in me wants to sip bourbon and eat bonbons wearing Fleur du Mal in a private library while listening to Lemonade on a gramophone. Definitely a splurge, but if you like being swathed in silk and lace, this one is for you.

Sabo Skirt
Australian brands generally have a knack for balancing trends and ease – maybe that’s why this California kid loves them so much. Sabo Skirt is a good “gateway brand” for getting into the Aussie scene – and what better way to begin than with loungewear?

Athleta
Practical, comfy athleisure – so comfortable, in fact, that I perennially steal one of my bff’s Athleta joggers. They are like butter on your booty with no greasy residue or unsolicited taste tests (this isn’t Aisle 9 at Costco, people). So, in a word – perfect. My other bff Claire (it’s a tier, people) also swears by their Salutation Leggings in Powervita fabric.

Got something to add to the list? I want to know! Drop a line and help everyone out.
… and don’t forget to think outside the box. Sometimes a loose maxi dress, sweats from CVS, your partner’s oversized sweater, or a silk chemise can just feel RIGHT when it comes to lounging. Lean into it, and enjoy!
love,
Stig
