It turns out that Fashion Blogger Glam isn’t an inherent quality – it’s learned.
At least, that’s what I hope each time I get ready for a big Glam Production.
Because for me, it takes EFFORT. And lots of time. And lots (and LOTS) of trial and error.
So a few weeks ago when I wore the vampy red dress number, I filmed the process of getting ready from start to finish. Eight hours in total: styling, showering, prepping skin, prepping hair, nails, lashes, tan, makeup – all of it.
Our brains get so used to seeing highly-produced photos on social media. When we stop and think, we know they take work to create, but the fact is that most of the time we don’t stop and think. The idea of fashion bloggers having some kind of natural tendency towards effortless glamor embeds itself somewhere in the back of our memory banks. Which is, of course, ridiculous.
Hours of prep, years of practice, good lighting, knowing your angles (yes that’s real) and filters grossly outweigh any intrinsic ability to just wake up that way. Yes, I said it. The idea that “I woke up like this” is outrageous – unless you’re posting a no-makeup resting B-face with your boobs all topsy-turvey and a few of your fingernails missing (prob stuck in your hair, I would know).
Anyhoo, here we are: Eight hours condensed into 9 minutes, just for you.
What it REALLY Takes to Get That Fashion Blogger Glam
There you have it! The good, the bad, and the plain awkward. Yes, it really did take that long – but I took my time, took little breaks, and didn’t rush.
What do you think? Worth it?
love,
Stig
