This is just to say: as a Californian and doubly so as a luso-Californian, I need to confess something. Wait – make that triply so, because I’m also Catholic.
I PUT RED WINE IN THE REFRIGERATOR.
Then I drank it.
Forgive me; it was delicious. So sweet and so cold.
[Now, if you got that very obscure, ultra-nerdy reference to William Carlos Williams, I can confidently say that you and I are nothing short of Soulmates.]

And why was I pushed to put the red wine in the refrigerator? Because this weekend was one of the hottest on record here in the Bay. Or at least, I imagine it was because right after we took these photos I had sweated off all my makeup. Yes folks. It slid right off my face and into my nearly inconsequential décolletage. Imagine a mask of full-coverage foundation and eye shadow slipping down my chest in the style of Salvador Dalí.
Mercifully, my lashes are glued to my face with superglue and suffered only minor losses.
All of that is just to say that it was simply too hot to be bothered with shoes, or even to let my hair, so painstakingly curled the night before, down.

The Ultimate Slip Dress Outfit
The unexpected beauty of all of this is that we get to see the Ultimate Slip Dress Outfit: barefoot, unbothered, unadorned. Simple. Just silk and skin. The slip dress doesn’t apologize for your curves or the fact that you’ve been hoovering down roast plum smoothies all day, or that you are enjoying the full-fleshed bounty of what we must be calling by now the Quarantine Fifteen.
The heat, the bloat, the squish, the blasphemous chilled red wine, the season of the Great British Bake-Off that you’ve seen four times and still rewind to watch Mary try and fit a biscotto in her mouth: the slip dress gloriously carries you through it, somehow with grace.

If You Want “In” on the Slip Dress
Should you be in the market for a slip dress, and I hope you are, keep in mind a few things: fit and fabric are E V E R Y T H I N G.
The fabric – silk if you can responsibly afford it – must glide over you. The fit must suggest the Cornucopia of Womanhood underneath without clinging. A perfect slip dress is so salaciously discreet that it would be indecent were it not so elegant.

How to style
I have a short video in the works, but between you and me, let me tell you something: let the dress do the work. Keep your lines simple, uncluttered. I usually wear shapewear; you may choose not to. The beauty of it is in silhouette and fabric, so less is definitely more!
One more thing – this is a piece that transitions beautifully from summer to fall, so if you want a solid “investment piece,” the slip dress is a good bet.
love,
Stig.
