Some would call it a matching set – I believe this outfit is operating at another level.
Let me explain.
Fashion may not be frivolous, but man is it good at reminding us to not take life so seriously. I say this after many hours of editing subpar photos (poor lighting) of me in what basically amounts to a very fancy, very Fashion, very Italian, leisure suit.

This was my Date Night look – no, not the guy in the wig, this green-checked fashion bonanza from MM6 Maison Margiela. You see, sometimes you pick your outfit because you want it to look “pretty.” Others, because you want to feel comfortable. Still others, because you need to – for lack of a better word – chillax in something that snubs convention.

Relaxed trousers? Yes. Checked button-down tied into a crop? Yes. Everything in shameless shades of green? Absolutely. Head-to-toe polyester? You got it.
Matching Set Leisure Suit: It’s a Mood
I’ve been feeling off lately. A little down. My inner cheerleader is a bit tired. I forgot to re-order chocolate chips – the big kind for cookies. Yes. I’ve been living sans chocolate in these times. The past few days have been rough.

Then today, as I fretted about how we didn’t have the right external flash for these photos and we should have added more light, and how maybe should upgrade my camera lens, and how can I possibly post these terrible pictures on the INTERNET, I realized what I was looking at.
A 32 year-old woman with a fancy degree, a Woman of the World, one who memorized Chaucer and studied the common gene sequences targeted for CRISPR, who writes about the social and political and environmental intersections of fashion and who is Very Serious and (sort of) Respectable
is
in
a
LEISURE SUIT.

How beautiful is that? How wonderful to know that life has nothing to do with our (my) ego? That something as fun, as wonky, as simple as a polyester matching set can remind us that we’re no big deal – and what a relief.
lovem
Stig.
