Sustainability, Fashion, and Conscious Consumerism: In Conversation with Memkoh

Sustainability, Fashion, and Conscious Consumerism

Today I had the immense pleasure of chatting with Memkoh over on Instagram Live about all things fashion, sustainability, and our role in changing things for the better! Memkoh is a fellow Bay Area resident and amazing stylist (check out her styling services here) whose heartfelt Instagram and YouTube share practical and fun wardrobe tips.

She and I have been scheming for awhile now and have finally come together to chat about something we both struggle with – how to engage in fashion in a responsable, sustainable manner that we can all feel GOOD about!

We discuss the scope of the sustainability issue (hint: it’s massive), how pollution and other fashion industry fallouts disproportionately affect underresourced populations, and what steps we can practically take to be a part of the solution.

Our conversation went live today at noon, but you can view it in its entirety on Memkoh’s Instagram or posted here below:

Sustainability, Fashion, and Conscious Consumerism: Resources

To do your brand research and find sustainable options, I recommend the site Good On You (goodonyou.eco). I had in mind another website, Free2Work.org, but it’s no longer active. However, in addition to Good On You, I recommend checking out Remake.World for their sustainability initiatives and brand recommendations!

The documentary recommended by my friend is from the series Stacey Dooley Investigates by the BBC, available through HBO. The episode title is Fashion’s Dirty Secrets.

For a list of solid, eco-friendly brands, check out this post!

Please feel free to follow up with any questions or recommendations!

love,

Stig.
