Happy New Year, everyone! Let’s carry the hard-learned lessons of 2020 into 2021, yes? Patience, going-with-the-flow, appreciation of the little things, and taking it day by day – all nuggets we paid dearly for, so use them! Speaking of the little things – I’ve dropped by today to share my New Year’s Eve outfit, and to no one’s surprise it’s a bit of a polished-skank kind of look (although much more figuratively so than last year’s outfit).
After all, when you’re celebrating New Year’s on the sofa, who cares what you wear? If you want to wear a onesie – which believe me, was a close second to this ensemble – who’s to stop you? I wanted sparkles, something slightly vituperous (what a word), and pants that make you do a little bidi-bidi-bom-bom. Check, check, and check!

Pants: Badgley Mischka (rent here or buy similar here)
When I put together outfits, sometimes the styling inspiration lags a bit – or maybe I should say it takes longer to percolate. These pants had called my name (after all, they are plastered in paillettes) and I had responded with a hearty invite to my New Year’s Eve outfit mood board. And then … *crickets*.
I couldn’t figure out what the F to wear the damn things with. They have a matching blazer, yes, but I couldn’t get my hands on it, and even if I had, it wasn’t the mood I wanted. I wanted something different, fun, a bit unexpected, so I waited for the muses to come through.

Came through they did. Somewhere from the hollows of my brain, about a day before NYE, the image of a black, underwired crop top with a turtleneck came to mind. I wasn’t sure if I had actually seen something like that, or if it was an amalgamation of things I’d seen other bloggers wear, but I knew that was what I wanted (it turns out it DOES exist, and you can buy one here). The problem was that I had no time to get my hands on one before the night of the 31st (damn muses being tardy and all).
I got a little scrappy, taking a black turtleneck from Target (God bless them) and stuffing it under the underwire of my bra … and I think I got away with it. Let me know what you think.

All in all, a fun, sleek, and SPARKLY way to close out a difficult year – even if I did spend it on the sofa with my husband and dog, watching Murder, She Wrote. I believe I was sitting on the bathtub rim, brushing my chompers at midnight, mostly disappointed that I wasn’t in bed yet. I have a feeling your New Year’s may not have been much different 🙂
Next week I have a slightly different (read: novel) post in store – I’ll see you all then!
love,
Stig
