Olive on Olive OOTD (with a side of Fabio, maybe)

olive for spring? groundbreaking.

Lemme paint you a picture: it’s a a spring evening, warm – say, a balmy 70 – and you’re drinking a glass of red as the sun sets over the olive orchards. You’ve had fresh pasta with young asparagus for dinner, the air smells like lemons, rosemary, and clean soil. You feel robustly squishy and especially womanly after so many mornings of cornetti with coffee, afternoons of gelato as you stroll the Tuscan countryside, and evenings with ciabatta and a fruit and cheese plate before you slide into your lavish Italian lingerie and sleep, sun-kissed buns out from under the comforter, balcony doors flung open to the breeze. You somehow always smell like gardenia and citrus and tomato leaves. Your skin glistens, popping with that olive-oil shine from the inside out – you would know, you’re the one who’s been salaciously dipping that foccacia into puddles of oil before dinner. You may or may not be seeing a man with a permanent five o’clock shadow and great hair named Fabio (or was it Fabrizzio?), but he’s inconsequential next to You and Your Kickass Outfit.

Clearly the pandemic has done nothing to dampen my imagination.

But that, friends, is what this olive-on-olive look evokes in me. An entire story shaped by texture, silhouette, and color – and my completely OTT love for drama.

I am a staunch supporter of the slip dress and its versatility: this look could easily be a brunch, lunch, or dinner look. It could be a drink-with-friends look, a dinner-with-family look, a first date look, a 400th date look, a networking event look, hell, even a church look.

And the olive color? I find it refreshing for spring: it’s botanical, yet unexpected, since we normally see it in fall and in reference to military colors at that. But for the spring it renders something different. It’s earthy, so much so that it almost has a flavor associated with it. It has such an herbaceous umami quality – rich. But fresh. I can think of no other color that plays those two qualities quite like olive.

E tu? What’s your take on olive for spring?

love,

Stig
