So what if my ideal power suit includes a crop top and a belly chain? In the Stig boardroom, there are only two rules: 1. Wear what honors who you are and what you’re up to, and 2. Never hang knits.

Nowhere in Company guidelines does it say to never mix midriff and shoulder pads.

It’s warming up around here, and slowly, as more of us are vaccinated, we’re peeping our heads out from our WFT WFH hidey-holes, limbering up our hips, and chassé-ing around town. And oh, the dressing options! This linen power suit scratches so many itches that have been building for the past year – it’s bold, definitely not sweatpants but just as comfortable (look at that wide leg!), has Power Shoulders and an attitude that screams “work hard, play hard, because why not?”.

And really, why not? Why not embrace shape and color? Why not wear something that reminds you, in between the lines of its tailoring and double-breasted glory, that joy is intrinsically productive? Why not spend time with people you love, doing what you love?

Of course, IRL it may not be practical to show up to work or the PTA wearing a crop top and body jewelry under your BDE suit (so much abbreviation in this post, SMH, SNS; and no, I didn’t have to Google those …). Maybe you wear a cami and a chunky gold necklace that flirts somewhat obnoxiously with the boundary of country-club chic and Scarface-at-Tiffany’s. Insert a bit of irreverence into your wardrobe, however that looks for you, however it helps you feel a little more liberated.

Some housekeeping: I’m working on some Big Life Things (the other BLT, speaking of abbreviations) that are devouring my time in delicious, hopefully fruitful, ways. I’ve mentioned it here before, but it bears repeating that for the next few weeks, at least until early June, posting here and on IG will be somewhat patchy. I have so much love for our little patch of internet we’ve created and it feels wronggggg to not be regularly posting, as if I’m abandoning my baby on a mountainside ála ancient Greece. Thankfully, it’s temporary – stick with me!
love,
Stig.
