Served with a side of spice, naturally.
Happy Monday! How was everyone’s weekend? Let’s kick off the week with a bit of trend-talk, sound good? We’ll be talking about all of those western details that have been pouring down the runway for Fall fashion and beyond.
Way back in March, when designers were showing their Fall and Resort collections for 2019, we saw those western details pop up. Buckles, hats, heavy wool layers (because the West gets cold at night, people), boots – all the bread and butter of Fall fashion started to worm their way into my little brain. Being from San Francisco, the OG Old West, these touches hold special magic for me.
I pulled some examples from Ralph Lauren’s Fall RTW and the Elie Saab Resort collections:

Purse: Fossil |Belt: ASOS | Jewelry: Beats me, I’ve had them for forever.

Confession time: My sister can’t stand this shawl. She calls it the horse blanket because there is just so damn much of it. I agree – it does look like horse blanket and there is a lot of volume. This is one of those situations where the reason that one person hates a style is the exact reason why the other loves it! Haha.
I love that it’s another layer I can add, that I can cinch it with a saweeeeet western style belt (that pops up again and again), and put with a scandalously short skirt and OTK boots and still feel within the bounds of common decency. Those boots add that spicy touch that I love. It’s all about balance, right?

And when I feel done with the horse blanket? Just peel that sucker off – but keep the belt. Love that western detail. And get yourself a basic black bodysuit. Can’t go wrong with that.

Accessories: I kept it simple, adding depth by mixing golds and silvers together. You could easily go all-out with some large, geometric jewelry here and it would be amazing.

Pretty easy to do, right? If you have a western style belt and a ridiculously large scarf, you’ve got yourself an outfit. I didn’t go full cowgirl here – a little goes a long way.
Keep your eye out – I don’t think the western thing is going away any time soon. What do you think?
love
Stig.
