The Formula to Spice Up that Simple Dress you Already Have in your Closet

The formula to spice up that dress you already have in your closet. Great for date night, a dinner, a gallery opening, or just to stare at yourself in the mirror in awe of how gorgeous you are!

Happy Monday! How was your weekend? Mine flew by. You may have seen on my Instagram that this weekend was the opening for San Francisco Fashion Week and it was wonderful. I’ll definitely be posting more on that and the rest of the week here on the blog, soon!

Sooooo, today we’re talking about an easy peasy “formula” for how to jazz up what you already have in your wardrobe. How often do you realize you have an event, or a date, or a fun dinner to go to, open your closet, and then feel like you need to run out and by a bunch of stuff because your closet has the flavor of a three week-old MacDonald’s crouton? I’m definitely raising my hand, yes, this happens all the time for me

Like so much in life, often times we have exactly what we need right in front of us.

So, here’s a formula for how to spice up a simple dress using items that most of us already have:

Dress of choice

+ long scarf

+ heels

+ belt

+ jewelry

= an outfit that is way spicier than a three week-old MacDonald’s crouton

How to jazz up a simple dress
Where’d the belt come from? Beats me. It is actually two belts I hooked together to add texture and contrast. And I’ve had them for so long that I don’t remember where I got them!

For a clean look, choose a dress that has a simple silhouette. I went for a knit midi dress because I like the contrasting length with the scarf.

But you can jazz this UP however you want. Colors, lengths, different widths on your belt, tuck the scarf, untuck the scarf, you name it, you can do it. Once you find what feels right on your body, you’ll know you’ve hit the sweet spot.

Who’s that on my iPhone? Haha. Papa Mendes, perhaps?

If you like this formula, you’ll also like this post.

Do you have any go-to formulas for dressing? Would this one work for you? Let me know!
