Night Out in Los Angeles: long sleeve turteneck bodycon dress with transparency and a belt bag | Uma noite em Los Angeles: vestido bodycon com gola rulê, transparência, e pochete

There’s a lot happening in this outfit from the second night of Los Angeles Fashion Week, and yet it came together so simply. Most notable – and the one I’m sure to get the most grief about from my sister – is the fanny pack.

I refuse to call it a “belt bag” like a lot of bloggers and designers nowadays. Come on, people. Call a spade a spade. Let’s not pretend that it is any more regal than it is; it is delightfully dorky and practical and happens to be sartorially acceptable at the moment. And anything that allows one hand for my caffeine and the other for my phone was welcome during fashion week.

The dress covered everything, but given how form-fitting it was, there was nothing modest about it. The transparent portions at the hem and arms lightened what could have been a heavy design, between the turtleneck and the print and the length. It was perfect for an October night in LA – autumn in appearance, but summer in feel, rich in tone but not in texture.

If you have a dress like this in your closet, relatively simple and flattering, this is a good time to dust it off and add an accessory you haven’t tried before. Maybe, dare I say, a fanny pack? Its cliche, but true – accessories make the outfit (*checks nails, flips hair*).

My friend Kim took these photos and I have to give her a lot of credit for working in very low light and producing usable pictures. One of us took awhile to get ready (can you guess who? haha) and we were really racing against sundown.

As a result, we couldn’t take a whole variety of photos – but I did sneak a photo of the earrings before I left the car, because they were just too pretty to not document here.

To bring this full circle, the last time I used a fanny pack was at Great America circa 1998 on a field trip. It was canvas, turquoise, and probably did not match whatever cotton shorts, camp t shirt, and Tevas I was wearing that day. When was the last time you wore a fanny pack?

love,

Stig
