Soooooo, I have a bunch of secret pet peeves, and one of them happens to be brunch (secret’s out). I don’t like having to – in theory – skip coffee, wait in long lines, have to shout at friends to be heard, and then pay thirty dollars for mediocre pancakes I could have made at home. But since I’m a millennial and I live in the Bay Area, brunch is just a fact of life.

It also happens that a bunch of people I love happen to love brunch, and since time with people you care about is the most precious and limited resource we have, I often find myself … brunching (what a pretentious word, brunching). There’s always a grumpy piece of my mind whining about waking up early and not wanting to double up on coffee, but also knowing I can’t leave the house without it – and I have to tell myself to shut the f up.
At the end of it all, brunch with friends is a gift.

So I also tell myself this: not only is it a gift, but it’s also an opportunity to wear cute clothes. My grouchiness inevitably cools. Moreover, how have I decided that brunch is going to stink before I even go? Maybe it won’t suck after all.
Let me tell you, most of the time it doesn’t end up sucking. It ends up being LOVELY.

Last weekend I had brunch with a few of my blogger friends at The Social Lady down in San Jose. There was zero wait, the food was delicious, and the menu was totally affordable. That, along with the amazing company of women I adore, made it very, very hard to keep brunch on my secret pet peeve list.

The Brunch Outfit
My brunch outfit – I went with winter whites and layered a Reformation wrap dress over my white boots. I rarely wear a dress over boots because I find that that combo can feel bulky on my frame, but since the dress was lightweight and had a semi-slit in the front, there was a balance there that I was comfortable with.

Let me tell you, spending time with people who share your passions is absolutely priceless.
Maybe I like brunch after all.
love,
Stig.
