Who says that basic has to be so, well, basic? I wore this look – what I’m calling, perhaps derivatively, “all black everything – for a day of running errands, believe it or not. There’s a piece of me that likes the challenge of running round the city in four-inch heels (maybe the former ballet dancer?), and while I’m young I let myself embrace the urge from time to time.

And yes, I did end up wearing this that night I wound up eating the three-taco combo from the Taco Bell drive-through, alone in my car in downtown Oakland. It was a Saturday, people – such is the glam that is my life. You see, a nagging symptom of my brain injury is that I lack short term memory and time management, which resulted in my forgetting to eat lunch and failing to pack any food. Before I knew it, I was pulled over at the curb eating that oddly delicious reconstituted beef/grape nut powder they call a taco, to the mild discomfort of a security guard working on said curb.

And then, off to San Francisco to visit my girls at Rent the Runway and pick up some goods for a few editorials I have up my sleeve. Can bloggers call them editorials, or is that just for fancy magazines? Open to thoughts on that.

Digression noted; on to the fashion. “All black everything” is really an exercise in shape and texture, which may be one of the reasons why looks like this one are so – if I may – sultry. You’re stripping away distractions and leaving the eye alone with the fundamentals. Your brain automatically registers the silhouette while engaging with the feel of the fabrics.

In this case, we have a contrast of long, straight lines (short skirt, long jacket, and points if you get that reference) and curves of the top. We have “leather” (totally fake), the satin of the bodice, and velvet of the duster. It manages to be subtle and bold at the same time, which for me taps into a special sort of confidence that jeans an a t shirt could never expose.
Even if I wore it while squeezing diablo sauce onto my crunchy taco combo – even elegance in moderation, no?
love,
Stig.
