There was a shipping snafu with my outfit for the opera this weekend, which forced me to improvise. To be honest, improvised outfits are often my favorites because I feel like I had to work a little harder, be more creative, to get to a satisfactory result. In this case, I threw together this all blue ensemble and it didn’t turn out half bad!

I reworked a silk button-down by rolling back the lapels and fixing them with fashion tape so they’d create a deep “v”. A front tie, more fashion tape so the boobs don’t misbehave, and voila! We have a summery, slightly jaunty production up top.

The skirt I actually bought off one of my own posts (hahaha) – it was the midi skirt outfit I posted a few weeks ago. When I search for pieces for the “Shop the Post” section I sometimes include at the bottom of the post, I only include items I’d actually wear. There have been a number of times when I almost bought one of my own recommendations, but given the fact that I’m looking for clothes based on what I’m already wearing, it often isn’t practical. But I ran across this skirt at Nordstrom Rack and it was so inexpensive, so silky, so tempting, that I had to have it.

And here we find ourselves, with another satin midi skirt post, this time all blue. I’m finding that monochrome is my fallback option most of the time – it looks put-together, even if we’re not feeling put-together. I mean, after we took these photos I popped popcorn in the microwave, sat in bed, and watched Susannah (the opera) at high volume. The popcorn, plus hot chocolate (for balance), was my dinner. Super put-together.

These pictures, I must say, made me laugh a bit – the lighting was so terrible the other night and I was exhausted! The combo was not what you’d call “inspired,” hahaha. For some reason, I saw the photos and thought to myself, “that b*tch looks like she’s been shipwrecked in Marseille!” A little disoriented, suntanned, wearing some hunky French sailor’s shirt – that’s an image I can live with.
Happy Monday!
love,
Stig.
