5 Fall 2020 Must-Haves I’m Straight-Up in LOVE With

6, if we count my day-of-the-week underwear discovery.

fall 2020 must-haves

It happens naturally. Every few months, a handful of items pop on my radar and I simply can’t put them out of my brain. They’re these little fixations on very specific pieces – some of them trends, others not. This summer was (shockingly) no different, and before I knew it, I had a running list of fall 2020 must-haves.

And since fall is upon us ( a transition I always take reluctantly, at best) and we have a long weekend ahead, we’re taking today’s post to vent those little obsessions I’ve been stewing over. I narrowed that mental list down to five items – silk sheets and these local brigadeiro chocolates not making the cut based on genre alone.

So: this is actually the first time I’ve done a post like this! I’ll hit you up with The List so you can see it all at a glance (each item is linked in the graphic and below). Scroll down for shopping ideas – some are mega-designer, others mega-affordable – and more explanation behind each item.

Let’s gooooo!

Breaking Down My Fall 2020 Must-Haves:

1. Leather Shorts

There were many days when I’d be putting together an outfit and think, “man, I wish I had some high-waisted leather shorts.” Who else can relate?

Just me?

*Clears throat.*

Trust me – these guys are so versatile and instantly make outfits look LUSH, effortless, and sophisticated.

I’m ahead of the game and nabbed some on sale back in July (or was it June?). I’m SO pumped to wear them! Such an easy way to bring your wardrobe into fall.

2. Gold Huggies

No, we’re not talking about diapers, although if I ever become incontinent I’d love some golden Depends.

Huggies are those mini hoop earring that nuzzle up against your lobes. They’re super wearable and come in all sizes, price points, and Bedazzle levels.

What I’m looking for are simple, chunky, gold huggies with a great sheen. See the contenders below!

3. Serious Loungewear

After all, it is 2020 and lounging has evolved past a national pastime and into a full-blown moda vivendi.

For an extensive list of AMAZING loungewear brands, check out this post from July!

Also – I snuck in some underpants at the end of the scroll below because they are DAY OF THE WEEK UNDERWEAR and I couldn’t be more excited. These will be on my Christmas list this year because I have no business buying more underpants. But goodness, are they amazing.

4. Sturdy Leather Tote

Have your canvas grocery bags taken a beating lately? Mine have. I’ve forgone purses almost entirely and have only been using the same worn New Yorker tote for everything.

Wanting to replace it with something more put-together, I realized that I do not own a grown-up work bag. You know, the kind that adults use for their laptop and agenda and whatever other Very Important and Serious Items they’d lug around in the Before Times?

That’s the kind of bag I’m missing.

It needs to be substantial. It needs to feel a bit aged. Like you inherited it from a very glamorous, very genius Great Aunt who came up with the double-helix structure of DNA a full generation before Watson and Crick. The kind of lady who’d wear bifocals and stilettos. Drink Madeira in a leather wingback as she read Ralph Ellison in her library. You getting the vibe I’m after?

5. Camel Blazer

It would be embarrassing to admit how many hours I’ve spent searching for the *perfect* camel blazer, but 1.) One has to have a sense of pride to be embarrassed, and I have none left; and 2.) I truly have no idea how much time I’ve spent, it’s all a blur.

Why is the hunt so taxing? For me, it can’t be any old blazer. Specifically, I want a camel-colored wool version of this blazer I’ve been wearing for over a year now. It must not be boxy. It must be long-line. Preferably double-breasted. Nipped at the waist. It must be of suitable fabric – wool or wool-blend. Above all, it must not be Tacky.

I imagine throwing it on over a slip dress, or a pair of jeans, or leather shorts. We’d go on long walks together. Falling leaves, hot coffee, spiced cake at a sidewalk cafe – very Fall in New York. No social distancing between my blazer and I. We’d be a Pod.

So it turns out that I have expensive taste (who’d have thunk?) so it may be awhile before I purchase the Blazer of My Dreams. Like, a long while. But good things come to those who wait. At least, that’s what I’m telling myself.

The good news? I’ve rounded up a few contenders that (mostly) fit the bill! Scroll through and see what you think!

Ta-dah! There we have it – what are your Fall 2020 must-haves?

love,

Stig
