The Reformation Wide Leg, Butt-Hugging Jeans that Make Me Want to SING

reformation, the sustainable fashion brand that's actually cute

The alternate title was “My Butt Loves Reformation and Yours Should Too,” so I’m giving myself pats on the back for self restraint.

I’ve been wanting to change up my silhouette lately. We’ve been doing skinny jeans for a long time now – if I remember correctly, I made the switch from the good old bootcut to skinny jeans in 2008 or so. More than ten years of calf-squeezing!

I do love a good skinny jean. It’s just time to spice things up.

I did get my paws on a great pair of wide-leg carpenter jeans from Aritzia last fall (you can see them in this blog post, or in this Instagram post. I love those pants. They fit like a glove and create a straight silhouette from the floor alllllllllll the way up to the smallest part of my waist. That’s -wide-legged pants gold.

So when I went shopping with my mom in Scottsdale (hi Mom!), it was such a joy to find these jeans from Reformation. Not only because they fit LIKE A FREAKING GLOVE, but also because I have had a style crush on the brand for a while now.

First of all, their clothes are damn cute. A little retro, but not in a cheesy way (not like you got lost at the Bluegrass Festival), and also a little edgy. I like.

More importantly, they are a sustainable business (here is a link to their very in-depth sustainability practices) committed to treating their employees and the environment with care and respect.

Right. Up. My. ALLEY.

And then the jeans. Lord, the JEANS, they hug each butt cheek like frosting on a cupcake. AND they fit at the waist. AND the length is perfect for heels or for sneakers (although since I’m 5’1″, they’d be cropped on most people).

About this Look

What it is: an “elevated” jeans look, casual with extra oomph

What I’m Wearing:

  • Derek Lam Collective silk top
  • Muffy (my Zara faux fur jacket, more on that here and here)
  • THE jeans
  • Studded gold boots from Pretty Little Thing
  • A ridiculously beautiful Carven handbag – WITH SA-WEET CHARMS ON IT!!! – that is equally impractical because it’s held closed by magnets which pop open at any and every opportunity (really, Carven? You’re better than that).
  • Oh, and my gigantic, life-giving earrings are from Forever 21 (because even though I love to shop sustainably, I am only human and therefore do shameful things like spend $5 on earrings that I know were probably not made in ideal conditions. Definitely room for improvement there).

Where to Wear It: For me, to the grocery store. For normal, practical people, you could wear it out to lunch or dinner at a fun restaurant, on a date, or to the gas station. Ok, maybe the gas station on the way to grab a cocktail (hopefully you’ll uber home).

Totally normal way to hang out in the neighborhood park while your hot husband takes pictures of you.

A Casual Option

I get that not everyone wears 5 inch boots on the daily. So here’s an example from yesterday that I wore to run errands and grab coffee with a friend (erg, we ended up getting curly fries and ice cream, but whatevs). I posted it on Insta yesterday, but I’ll put it here too so you can do a side by side comparison of the fancy-fancy outfit and super casual outfit.

Jacket: Emory Park, on sale in burgundy here | Tee: Project Social here | Shoes: Nike here
Purse (open because I’m a slob, not because it’s disfunctional: See by Chloe, here

The retro Nikes give it an old-school feel that I really enjoy. Also, they are super comfy!

So the moral of today’s story is:

Give Reformation a try because their clothes ROCK and they are good people. Let me know what you think.

Also, Carven, get your act together. Your bags are gorgeous and I want to prance around town with them but I can’t if all of my crap is coming out. All my crap being a wallet and a cell phone.

love,

Stig
