OOTD: Casual/Retro/Glam (aka Accidentally Farrah Fawcett)

glam casual retro outfit

What to wear when you want to keep it casual-retro-glam and comfortable, but aren’t in the lampshading mood? I’d vote for something like this – fun sneaks, butt-hugging jeans, Muffy the Faux Fur Jacket, and a top that looks like I stole it from the Stranger Things backlot.

This look reminded me of something, but I couldn’t put my finger on what. Until, that is, I saw these photos of Farrah Fawcett:

Dammit, Farrah! Not only did you preempt my look, but you’re not even wearing a helmet. Come on, now. But man, she nailed that casual/retro/glam vibe!

In any case, I wore this outfit last week and got a remarkable number of comments on the jacket. A security guard at the Union Square DSW even stopped me to talk about it – and feel it – and wanted to know how much I had paid for it. She thought it was real, and was surprised when I said it came from Zara and was $150. Regardless of cost, it is a statement. And, I might add, a warm one.

One thing about using retro looks – unless you’re going to a costume party, you can update your outfit with more contemporary hair, makeup, and accessories (hence the slick, very non-Farrah, low ponytail). Just an FYI.

In other news, New York Fashion Week started yesterday! As I did for Haute Couture Week, I’ll be giving summaries on my Instagram Stories as shows come up, and doing a summary post here at the end of next week. I’ll have to be more choosy about which shows I cover, because there are a lot. If there’s one you want covered, let me know!

Want more faux fur? See this post. You might enjoy it.

Have a great weekend!

love,

Stig.
