Do you fixate on specific trends? I sure do. It seems like every season I come up with a new Hunt for the “perfect-fill-in-the-blank” item, often resulting in untold hours of scrolling through the internet to find the exact piece I’m looking for at the right price. This season, it was the perfect-square-toe-strappy-heels.
I was very specific – I wanted a sort of “floss heel,” meaning that the straps are so skinny they look like dental floss. And it had to have a SQUARE. TOE. All about those 90-degree angles around here.
The Zara heels I bought earlier this year came very close, but didn’t exactly scratch my itch. Let’s say they were “itch-scratching-adjacent”. I wanted to tell them, “go just a bit down and to the left.” Thinner straps, squarer toe, and it would have sealed the deal. Still, they were a good option.

The Email Fluke
Quick tangent, but I promise it’s relevant: do you have a ton of unread junk mail in your inbox? I have almost 18,000 unread messages. To be more precise, at THIS MOMENT I have 17,796 unread emails. 95% of these can be divided into two categories: Democratic campaigns/activism OR newsletters from online retailers. Because even a democratic socialist can’t resist signing up to receive 10% off her next order, am I right?
And how often do I even open those emails? Clearly, not very. I really should annihilate them from my inbox. Maybe get some sort of “unsubscribe” bot? Ugh, I hate dealing with logistics like that. And I hate all those emails. Most of the time.
“Most of the time,” because there was one golden moment where I opened an email from Moda Operandi. To be clear, there is absolutely ZERO reason why I should be shopping on that site. Window shopping, yes – it is wonderful for scoping out trends. But shopping shopping, no. Because it is rich-lady prices and I am not a rich lady.
But LAWD, the spirit moved me that day, and I opened that Moda Operandi email because it promised a sale. To be clear, even on sale I can’t afford anything substantial from them. But hope springs eternal, right?
And there they were. The Jacquemus sandals I had just seen on that marvelous runway presentation in the lavender fields of France. And they were almost 80% off.
You better bet I pounced on them – and I’m so glad I did! I’ve been wearing them as if they were my only pair of shoes (I mean, see this post, this post, and this post if you want proof).

And then the guilt came. Here I was, posting these shoes I got for a great – albeit fluked – deal, and said deal had come and gone! So if you wanted the same shoes, you’d have to pay a lot more than I did, and that didn’t feel right.
So today, I’m rounding up various SQUARE TOE, STRAPPY HEELED sandals at various price points. Because even though it’s August, we have lots of warm weather ahead of us, and you may want to show off your cute toesies in a sa-weeeeet pair of sandals. I got you.
