The Wear-Everywhere outfit for Fall | O conjunto outonal para toda ocasião

This past weekend was a bit of a marathon – Saturday specifically, as I had three different parties to go to, and I’m proud to say that I hit up each one of them. That’s likely a first for me, since I’m quite the homebody!

Bag: 3.1 Phillip Lim | Dress: Madewell (runs huge, just FYI) | Cardigan: 525 America (similar here and here)

I needed an outfit that could take me from a family friend’s 70th birthday party in the afternoon, to a house party where my friend’s dad was to perform magic tricks in the evening, to a going away party for a Brazilian samba professor at night. It needed to be no-fuss, flattering, have layers, and be proper without being dowdy. I wanted something I felt good in, considering that I was peeling my introverted self away from my apartment to be around people all day. The fabrics and the fit would be key if I were to wear this thing all day.

The birthday kid and I – this is Richard, and he’s known me since before I was born and we’re really close. A privilege to celebrate his 70th!

Out of these requirements the Wear-Everywhere Fall OOTD was born: a silk midi-dress, a long, cable-knit cardigan, heels, and a tousled bun.

Easy and slightly sensual (especially should you let that cardigan fall off your shoulder, and I know you will, you minx), but no one could ever accuse you of looking like a tart at your friend’s dad’s magic show.

But they will say you look like a tart at the samba party, because that, my friend, is a compliment.

To keep this practical, give yourself plenty of leeway to mix your neutrals – not only is it common practice nowadays, it’ll save you a lot of grief when you’re picking through your closet.

I should note that I DID change shoes before the samba party – some red velvet wrap stiletto heels – and neglected to take a photo. Mea culpa!! It was a very easy swap to make, though, and primed my outfit for a more ”evening” vibe.

I should also note that for me personally, this outfit wouldn’t feel right without heels given the midi length of the dress and cardigan. The ”midi” is everywhere right now, and if you play your proportions right, it can look quite elegant – however, it does have huge potential to cut up your frame and make you look shorter than you are. And if you’re like me, you don’t need anything to make you look shorter.

This is Penny, Richard’s dog. She gave me this dubious look when I stopped massaging her back.

I unfortunately do not have video of my friend’s dad’s magic show, but it was a total riot.

What’s your wear-everywhere fall ootd?

love,

Stig
